Turning its promise of Together We Nourish The Future into action, Aboitiz Foods continues to create meaningful, long-term impact in the communities where it works through programs that are sustainable, relevant, and rooted in shared progress. In Malaysia, Aboitiz Foods, through Gold Coin Sarawak and Gold Coin Feedmill (Sabah) Sdn. Bhd, lights up rural villages and supports relief efforts for disaster-stricken communities.

Sparking hope through Brighter Communities

SARAWAK, Malaysia, October 24, 2025 — Gold Coin Malaysia recently turned over 40 solar-powered lamp kits and installed communal outdoor lights in Sarawak villages under its Brighter Communities project – an initiative that brings sustainable light sources to rural households without reliable electricity access.

Sarawak holds a special place for Gold Coin Malaysia because it is home to many of its team members and their families. By lighting up the homes and pathways of 150 residents at Kampung Sumur Bunuk, the project helps improve neighborhood safety and security at night, while reducing fire risks from kerosene lamps. Families can now extend small businesses and household activities after dark, while children have ample light to help them study more effectively.

“Today, through Brighter Communities, we are bringing safe, renewable light sources to homes and public spaces,” said James Kueh, Gold Coin Country Director for Malaysia and Brunei, adding, “These lights represent more than just tools for illumination. They represent opportunities for a better quality of life and endless possibilities for families and their children.”

In addition to providing physical solar lighting systems, the project also involves conducting usage and maintenance training for community members to ensure project sustainability. Implemented in partnership with the local government and community leaders, the Brighter Communities project underscores Aboitiz Foods’ commitment to inclusive and lasting development.

Helping families rebuild homes

Restoring hope.  Supporting the families affected by severe flooding and landslides in Kota Kinabalu last September, Gold Coin Malaysia, in partnership with Lions Club of Penampang, handed over essential equipment and supplies to help communities rebuild and recover.

SABAH, Malaysia—Following the flash floods and landslides that struck Kota Kinabalu and nearby districts, which displaced thousands and damaged homes, Gold Coin Malaysia mobilized relief operations for affected families in partnership with the Lions Club of Penampang and local parish leaders.

Over 200 bags of rice, 50 wheelbarrows, 20 high-pressure water jet cleaners, and other essential items were distributed to support cleanup efforts and help families in Inanam, Penampang, and Papar rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

“We sincerely thank Gold Coin Feedmill for their generous relief donations, which will greatly support the communities affected by the recent landslides and floods in Sabah,” said Dr. Randolf Paza Tsen, President of the Lions Club of Penampang.

Despite heavy rains and the difficult terrain, Gold Coin volunteers joined residents in cleanup activities that involved removing debris, clearing mud, and restoring damaged properties. The effort exemplified the company’s culture of compassion and solidarity, bringing together employees, local partners, and community members to respond to urgent needs on the ground.

Through its CSR programs in Malaysia, Aboitiz Foods, through Gold Coin, reaffirms its commitment to creating lasting value and shared progress in the communities where it operates. Rooted in its core values and purpose of sustainably feeding Asia’s growth from mill to meal, Aboitiz Foods champions programs that nurture and empower people, enable communities to thrive, and promote a more sustainable future for all.
