Learning That Grows Beyond the Classroom
Agriculture plays an essential role in society as the primary source of food and nutrition that sustains us. Skills like plowing land, planting crops, raising livestock, and harvesting produce are fundamental life competencies. Lianwan Primary School in Zhuhai City believes in cultivating this discipline from an early age, making it an integral part of its curriculum.
Located in Jinwan District, China, Lianwan Primary School has developed an agricultural learning base right on its grounds—a space where young students gain hands-on experience in growing fruits and vegetables, as well as raising animals. It is a holistic approach that teaches discipline and responsibility, builds stamina, provides an understanding of where food comes from, imparts key nutritional knowledge, and most importantly, cultivates an interest in how food production contributes to our ecosystem and the advancement of society.
Managing a school while taking care of a backyard farm is no easy feat, especially for a small primary school. Understanding these challenges and leveraging its expertise in animal feed production, Gold Coin stepped in to provide a steady animal feed supply and offered volunteer support for farm upkeep.
A Shared Commitment to Holistic Education
Project EduCare, an initiative led by Aboitiz Foods through Gold Coin China, combines “Edu” (Education) and “Care” (Well-being and Support) to promote learning while nurturing the holistic needs of individuals and communities. In its second year of partnership, Aboitiz Foods is helping sustain the school’s farming activities by donating a one-year supply of animal feed—a total of 40 bags—for the school’s ducks, chickens, and fish. In addition, team members from the organization volunteered to assist with farm operations, helping to ease the labor needs of the school.
On July 4, 2025, Lianwan Primary School held a Harvest Festival to celebrate the students’ achievements, both in academics and farming activities. Team members from Gold Coin Zhuhai joined the festivities and formally turned over 20 pick-up vouchers valued at approximately CNY 4,400. This thoughtful system allows the school to collect animal feed from the Gold Coin China mill based on actual usage, ensuring freshness and preventing waste.
