Sebagai bagian dari perayaan Bulan Perempuan Nasional, para istri anggota Pasukan Pengamanan Presiden (PSG) diajari cara membuat kue sebagai mata pencaharian yang berkelanjutan.
Diresmikan pada 20 Februari lalu, "The Bread Camp," sebuah toko roti yang akan dijalankan oleh PSG Enlisted Personnel (EP) Ladies Club di Malacañang, kini menawarkan "Pan Digong", pan de sal keju kambing premium yang diberi nama sesuai dengan nama Presiden Rodrigo Duterte.
"Saya dengar dia sangat menyukai roti. Dia adalah orang yang sangat sederhana dan memiliki kecintaan yang mendalam terhadap orang Filipina. Saya rasa pan de sal akan menjadi pilihan roti terbaik yang dia sukai," kata Cristina Versoza, anggota EP Ladies Club.
Proyek ini diprakarsai oleh Aboitiz Group melalui unit tanggung jawab sosial perusahaannya, Aboitiz Foundation, dan unit bisnis makanannya, Pilmico.
Sekitar 300 anggota PSG-EP Ladies Club akan secara langsung mendapatkan manfaat dari kebangkitan kembali bisnis toko roti yang dulu sangat menguntungkan ini.
"Toko roti Itong aming, saat saya laporkan tahun 2016 lalu, masih buka, namun tutup. Kemudian beberapa bulan setelahnya, toko ini benar-benar tutup dan tetap tutup selama beberapa waktu. Mabuti na lang mungkin teman-teman yang bermaksud baik seperti Aboitiz na gustong tumulong sa mga sundalo," kata Komandan PSG, Kolonel Jose Eriel Niembra.
Niembra mencatat bahwa The Bread Camp memiliki peluang bagus untuk sukses dengan melayani masyarakat sekitar.
Juni 2018 lalu, Pilmico mendonasikan kepada PSG sebuah peralatan bakery yang terdiri dari oven dua dek, mixer spiral, mixer kue, alat pengiris roti, rak memasak, lemari pendingin, lemari pendingin, lemari pendingin tipe dada, serta tepung Pilmico dan bahan-bahan kue.
