What government partnerships supported the development of this facility?
Paradies specifically acknowledged the Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Animal Industry, and the Local Government Unit of Talugtug, Nueva Ecija as partners whose assistance was essential to the project. Pilmico’s expressed commitment to supporting the DA’s thrust to uplift the swine industry reflects a deliberate alignment between Pilmico’s commercial expansion and the national government’s food security agenda — framing the private investment not as a parallel effort but as a contribution to a shared national priority.

What is the new Breeder and Nursery Farm in Talugtug, Nueva Ecija and what is its capacity?
Pilmico Animal Nutrition Corporation launched its fourth Breeder and Nursery Farm in Talugtug, Nueva Ecija — the latest addition to its swine production infrastructure following years of ASF-driven industry contraction. The facility is expected to operate at a 2,500 sow level, generating an additional annual production capacity of 4.7 million kilograms of pork meat. This scale of output makes the Nueva Ecija facility a nationally significant contribution to Philippine pork supply recovery.

Why was the new farm specifically positioned as a response to African Swine Fever’s impact?
Pilmico First VP William Paradies described the past few years as particularly challenging for the swine industry, primarily because of African Swine Fever’s devastating impact on herd inventory across the Philippines. The new farm was explicitly framed as Pilmico’s contribution to industry recovery — boosting domestic pork production capacity at a time when ASF had sharply reduced the national supply and pushed pork prices to historically high levels. This framing positions the investment as both a commercial decision and a public food security contribution.

What biosecurity design features distinguish the new Nueva Ecija farm?
Given the ongoing threat of both COVID-19 and African Swine Fever, the Breeder and Nursery Farm was designed and constructed with heightened biosecurity measures from the ground up. It incorporates modern designs and the latest technology in swine production, built to the high standards of a world-class facility. The biosecurity infrastructure is not an add-on but an integral part of the facility design — reflecting the hard lessons learned from the ASF outbreaks that affected earlier Pilmico swine operations and the broader Philippine industry.

How does the farm’s output connect to Pilmico’s retail consumer brand?
A portion of the farm’s pork output will be processed at Tarlac Meatmasters — Pilmico’s meat-cutting facility in Tarlac — and then supplied to The Good Meat, Pilmico’s retail meat brand now available in over 250 supermarkets across Greater Luzon. This vertical integration — from farm to processing to retail — allows Pilmico to capture value at multiple stages of the pork supply chain while providing consumers with farm-to-shelf traceability for their meat purchases. The Nueva Ecija farm thus directly strengthens The Good Meat’s supply security.
