On July 29, 2024, Philippine public schools officially opened their doors to students for the school year 2024-2025. To help create a more conducive learning environment for the students, Aboitiz Foods, through its Pilmico subsidiaries, participated in this year’s “Brigada Eskwela.”
This year’s theme, “Bayanihan Para sa Matatag na Paaralan,” underscores the importance of volunteerism and community cooperation or bayanihan in creating a better and safer environment for public school students.
And that’s precisely what Aboitiz Foods did in different parts of the country.
In Iligan City, Aboitiz Foods reached out to Primitivo R. Quimpo Memorial School, which has faced several challenges due to its remote location and limited resources.
Over a hundred students struggled with the lack of equipment for their Information and Communication Technology (ICT) subjects, which is essential for both students and educators to enhance their educational experience and thrive in today’s digital world.
Recognizing the school’s urgent need for ICT resources, Aboitiz Foods donated five desktop computers last July 12, 2024.
“On behalf of Primitivo R. Quimpo Memorial School, I thank ABOITIZ and PILMICO volunteers for their generous donation of five desktop computers. This contribution greatly enhances our ICT capabilities, empowering our teachers and students in today’s digital age. Your support ensures education thrives despite challenges. Thank you for making a lasting impact,” said Mae Flor O. Quintana, Designated School Officer of Primitivo R. Quimpo Memorial School.
In addition to the desktop computers, over 70 volunteers from Aboitiz Foods, including its security personnel and interns, teachers, and Philippine army members, supported the initiative.
They repainted the classroom walls and cleaned the school grounds.
Meanwhile, Aboitiz Foods team members also helped paint the school facilities of Gumain Primary School, Bueno Integrated School, and Buted Elementary School, located in Bamban and Capas, Tarlac, and Talugtug, Nueva Ecija, respectively.
In addition to contributing to the renovation of the schools, they also distributed additional equipment, school bags, and supplies to aid in the students’ learning for this school year.
Aboitiz Foods team members, joined by their families, participate in Brigada Eskwela annually. Engr. Michael Cayabyab, Aboitiz Foods Feeds Operations Engineering Manager, shared his experience “I make it a point to bring my son to Brigada Eskwela every year.
It’s not just about the physical labor; it’s about teaching him gratitude. I want him to understand that our schools are more than just buildings—they’re the heart of our community. By participating, we’re showing our appreciation for the education we’ve received. I want him to know that even small acts of service can make a big difference.”
Aboitiz Foods is committed to nourishing the future of the students by participating in this year’s Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela.
By helping create a better, cleaner, and safer environment for schools, we boost the students’ learning experience.
