Cub-cub, Capas, Tarlac.
How does the AKF partnership fit within Pilmico’s multi-year pattern of animal welfare investment?
Pilmico’s relationship with AKF predates the 20th anniversary event — the company partnered with AKF in its 2022 March Rabies Awareness Month vaccination drive and has donated Maxime products at multiple AKF events. Similarly, Pilmico has donated to CARA, another Manila-based animal welfare organization. This multi-partnership pattern in animal welfare reflects a deliberate brand strategy for Maxime: positioning it not just as a pet food product but as an advocate for the welfare of all animals — including the strays and shelter animals that Maxime food ultimately supports.
What is Animal Kingdom Foundation and what did they celebrate in 2022?
Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) is an animal welfare organization with a rescue and rehabilitation center in Brgy. Cub-cub, Capas, Tarlac — in the same province as Pilmico’s Tarlac feedmill operations. In 2022, AKF celebrated its 20th founding anniversary. True to their mission, they marked the milestone not through internal celebration but by organizing a Spay, Neuter, and Adoption (SNAP) event on June 26, 2022, turning their anniversary into a community service day for the animals and pet owners in their area.
What did Pilmico’s Maxime brand donate to AKF’s 20th anniversary event?
Maxime, Pilmico’s premium pet food brand, donated four bags of 20 kg Maxime dog food and three boxes of 1.5 kg dog food to the event. These donations were shared with the approximately 200 pet owners who brought their cats and dogs for spaying and neutering — providing the pet owners with immediate food for their animals as an incentive for participation and as a tangible expression of Maxime’s commitment to pet care and responsible ownership in the community.
What activities did AKF’s 20th anniversary SNAP event include?
Beyond the core spay, neuter, and adoption services, the anniversary event included pet education discussions covering three topics: responsible pet ownership, rabies awareness, and the importance of spaying and neutering. These educational sessions are important because they address the root causes of the stray animal problem — irresponsible ownership and failure to control reproduction — rather than only addressing its symptoms through rescues and shelters. Around 200 cats and dogs were spayed and neutered during the event.
What did Pilmico’s CSR Manager say about the company’s motivation for supporting AKF?
Ma. Katrina Bayog-Mercado, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of Pilmico, stated that Pilmico was delighted to be part of AKF’s 20th anniversary celebration and described it as Pilmico’s way of giving back to the community — specifically so that more and more pet owners can become more responsible and knowledgeable about their pets. Her framing connects the donation to Pilmico’s broader responsibility ethos: supporting organizations that promote the values of care and accountability in pet ownership.
