Feeding the Future: How Aboitiz Foods Lives ‘Always Better’

Jul 23, 2025

Building a high-performance culture at Aboitiz Foods is grounded on four values: Integrity, Teamwork, Innovation, and Responsibility. Each is brought to life by its own set of behaviors that shape how we grow and work together.

In 2024, Aboitiz Foods launched a refreshed set of values behaviors to our team members as we work towards a high-performance culture grounded in the four core Aboitiz values: Integrity, Teamwork, Innovation, and Responsibility.

One of these is ‘Always Better’ —  a behavior under the Aboitiz value of Innovation. It’s a mindset that strives for growth, learning, adaptability, and continuous improvement.

As part of our commitment, we constantly offer timely and relevant learning opportunities that help team members develop core competencies, enhance leadership skills, and build functional skills to excel in their current and future roles. Whether it’s developing leadership skills, becoming a trainer, or gaining financial literacy, Aboitiz Foods aims to strengthen and enhance its employees’ fundamental skills across countries, skills they will carry throughout their careers.

Shaping the next generation of leaders

Leadership development is essential in strengthening our organization’s future. On May 7-9, 2025, around 20 team members from Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam participated in the Fundamentals of Leadership workshop in Gold Coin Port Klang, Malaysia. The training aims to empower Aboitiz Foods team members, especially those stepping into new roles, to develop as people leaders.

“What I appreciated most was the safe and open learning environment, where everyone felt encouraged to share personal experiences, reflect, and support each other,” said Tram Luu Thi Thuy, an internal auditor from Vietnam.

Tram Luu Thi Thuy (middle) is joined by Jenny Jong (left), Assistant Vice President of Human Resources for Malaysia and Brunei, and Crystalyn Duran Tago (right), Assistant Vice President for Talent Development and Engagement, who also served as one of the workshop facilitators.

The two-day workshop is designed to help new leaders navigate challenges and equip them with essential leadership, communication, and accountability skills, helping them transition confidently. Additionally, it enables them to lead with empathy and purpose, aligned with our core values.

Tram also expressed her gratitude for incorporating their real-life challenges into the exercises. “I was particularly inspired by the discussions on adaptive leadership, empathy in communication, and active listening — concepts I’ve already started applying in my 1-on-1s with my team. Leadership is a journey, not a destination. And this workshop gave me a meaningful step forward. Always better!” she said.

By building a leadership pipeline across teams and countries, we strengthen the foundation for sustainable growth.

Training the Trainers

Knowledge is most powerful when it’s shared. Through the A-Trainer program, we build our internal capability to enhance the skills of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as trainers by enabling them to identify training needs, design effective instructional strategies, develop clear training content, deliver engaging sessions, and assess training effectiveness.

Raymond Teoh, an Associate Counsel from Malaysia, shared how the program influences his role moving forward. “The A-Trainer Workshop was a fantastic opportunity to connect and collaborate with Aboitiz Foods colleagues from different functions and countries as we explored the intricacies of building strong training frameworks – from initial design to successful implementation, evaluation, and ongoing improvement.  In my role as Team Compliance Lead for Aboitiz Foods, this insight is instrumental in developing more impactful training sessions.”

The training equipped participants with adult learning principles, facilitation techniques, and the confidence to lead engaging workshops. With team members across countries joining this workshop, a culture of continuous improvement has been fostered while cross-site knowledge sharing has been encouraged.

It’s a practical embodiment of the “Always Better” mindset—creating internal champions of learning who uplift others as they grow.

Effective Presentation for Finance

Finance can be complex—but teaching it doesn’t have to be.

Through our Effective Training Delivery & Platform Skills Workshop, we equip our finance teams to deliver financial concepts with clarity and confidence.

This program strengthens trainers’ ability to simplify complex metrics like budgets and forecasts, while enhancing facilitation techniques, communication skills, and storytelling around numbers. By equipping our internal finance experts to become more effective presenters, we also foster stronger cross-functional understanding. This enables smarter decisions that can deliver results across the organization.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do at Aboitiz Foods. The learning and development programs showcased here reflect our dedication to nurturing their potential. Through a range of initiatives that strengthen essential leadership and organizational skills, we empower team members to embody the “Always Better” mindset, fostering a culture of continuous growth and improvement, and enabling them to truly feed their futures with us.
