Pilmico Animal Nutrition Corporation (Pilmico) extends donations to Compassion and Responsibility for Animals Welfare Philippines (CARA), a non-profit, non-governmental organization that advocates animal welfare including stray animal population control.
Last March 30, Aboitiz Group’s food subsidiary Pilmico donated P500,000 pesos and 50 bags of pet food products from Maxime, Pilmico’s premium pet food brand. This aims to help CARA in their efforts to provide affordable veterinary consultations and low-cost neuter/spay operations.
Blessie Zarzuela, National Sales Manager of Maxime, said that Pilmico is in full support of the organization for the benefit of stray animals. “We, at Pilmico, believe that all of us must take care of the welfare of animals, especially our beloved pets. We are delighted to give CARA all the support we can provide because we firmly believe in their organization’s advocacies and sentiments when it comes to animal welfare,” she said.
Pilmico’s donations will be used for the benefit of CARA’s spay and neuter operations and pit bull center, among others.
CARA president Nancy Cu Unjieng said the monetary and in-kind donations will be dedicated to food and medicine for animals, spay and neuter operations, their pit bulls center’s expenses and staff’s salaries, among others. “CARA Welfare Philippines would like to extend our sincere gratitude to PILMICO Animal Nutrition for giving this generous amount to our organization, along with dog food. This donation will be allotted for the daily food of animals, medication, and veterinary expenses of our pit bulls center,” she said.
Apart from Zarzuela, representatives from Pilmico namely Jiggs Espadilla, Marketing Manager, and Leo Marko Valencia, Marketing Supervisor of Pilmico Pet Food Division were present during the turnover of the donation to CARA.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Pilmico-CARA donation reflect Maxime’s brand positioning and commercial strategy?
Maxime’s investment in animal welfare organizations like CARA serves multiple purposes simultaneously. First, it genuinely contributes to an organization that improves the lives of animals. Second, it builds brand equity among the pet owner community — Maxime’s core customer segment — by demonstrating that the brand’s commitment to animal wellbeing extends beyond product quality to active community investment. Third, a partnership with the most recognized animal welfare NGO in Metro Manila gives Maxime credibility and visibility in the pet food market at a scale that advertising alone cannot replicate.
What is CARA and what does it do for animal welfare in the Philippines?
CARA — Compassion and Responsibility for Animals Welfare Philippines — is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that advocates for animal welfare including stray animal population control. CARA provides affordable veterinary consultations and low-cost spay and neuter operations for pet owners who cannot afford standard rates, operates a center for rescued pit bulls, and conducts community education on responsible pet ownership. The organization serves both owned pets whose owners have limited means and stray animals with no owner at all.
What did Pilmico donate to CARA and when was the donation made?
On March 30, 2022, Pilmico donated PHP 500,000 pesos and 50 bags of pet food products from Maxime, Pilmico’s premium pet food brand, to CARA. The monetary donation addresses CARA’s operational funding needs — including staff salaries, veterinary supplies, and ongoing facility costs — while the Maxime pet food donation provides direct daily nutritional support for the animals in CARA’s care, particularly the pit bulls at their specialized center.
How did CARA President Nancy Cu Unjieng describe how the donation would be used?
CARA president Nancy Cu Unjieng specified that the monetary and in-kind donations would be dedicated to: food and medicine for animals, spay and neuter operations, expenses of their pit bull center, and staff salaries. Her detailed breakdown of the donation’s intended uses reflects accountability in recipient-donor communication — and gives Pilmico confidence that the donation is channeled toward specific, verifiable operational needs rather than general organizational funding.
What did Maxime National Sales Manager Blessie Zarzuela say about Pilmico’s commitment to CARA’s mission?
Blessie Zarzuela stated that Pilmico is in full support of CARA for the benefit of stray animals, and articulated a values alignment: Pilmico believes that all must take care of the welfare of animals, especially beloved pets. She described CARA’s advocacies and sentiments as being in firm alignment with Pilmico’s own beliefs — framing the donation not as philanthropy toward an external cause but as an expression of shared values between two organizations that independently arrived at the same animal welfare commitment.
